How to find the Byre Theatre
Driving to St Andrews is relatively simple, with the town signposted from Edinburgh and within Fife. Driving from Edinburgh takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, driving from Glasgow takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes. It takes around half an hour to drive from Dundee. The Byre Theatre is near the centre of St Andrews, close to the Abbey.
The nearest railway station to St Andrews is Leuchars, around six miles from the town. Station facilities include 24-hour parking, a waiting room and taxi rank. The Stagecoach in Fife 99 runs every 15 mins and the bus journey between St Andrews and Leuchars takes around 15 minutes.
Most bus services arrive and depart from the bus station in the centre of town.
There are bus stops directly outside the Abbey Street entrance served by Stagecoach services: 95, 99A and 99B. Most of these are low floor buses which you can check with Stagecoach on 01383 660880 or email: email@example.com
When the ticket office within the bus station is closed, visitors should buy tickets for their service from the bus driver using cash.
Travelling within Scotland
Visitors looking to travel to or from Edinburgh should look out for the X58, X59 and X60
Stagecoach services, which take around two hours. Stagecoach also offers bus services to Glasgow, via the X24, X26 and X27 services, which take around two and a half hours.
Local Taxi Services
St Andrews is home to a number of taxi and shuttlefirms. They can offer a range of services, from airport transfers to collection from Leuchars station. You can find taxi ranks in St Andrews on Bell Street, on South Street and at the bus station.
Parking, drop-off and pick up areas
There’s often lots of competition for parking in St Andrews. Leave an extra half hour for parking when you plan your journey. There are four accessible parking spaces outside the entrances (two on South Street, two on Abbey Street). There is a large drop off area on Abbey Street that allows direct access to the Theatre.
The foyer is made up of several, distinct spaces. Depending on how busy the building is – there are usually areas that are quiet. Additional spaces, like the level four foyer, can sometimes be available too – a member of staff will be able to help. There is a first aid room on level two – with a couch which could be appropriate for adult changing. This is backstage and a member of staff will be able to assist with access. Lighting in the café bar and in some of the toilets is muted. The light in the auditorium and studio is also muted but staff are trained and available to assist. Hard floor surfaces mean that the foyer areas can be quite noisy at times.
There are accessible toilets on levels one and four of the theatre. Level one toilets also have baby changing facilities.
