About The Studio
Situated in Potterow, The Studio is a contemporary, flexible space that can accommodate a wide range of uses from rehearsals and workshops to small-scale performances and festivals.
How to find The Studio
Located at 22 Potterrow, It looks onto Edinburgh University Students’ Association’s dome. The Studio is fully accessible with lift access, which have voice synthesisers to assist visitors.
Parking and drop off
If you are arriving by car please note that there are double yellow lines on Potterrow directly outside the theatre. We would advise you to arrive with plenty of time and plan ahead. We have parking spaces in the courtyard of the Festival Theatre for patrons with accessible requirements, we also offer a drop off and pick up service. A space, for either service, can be booked in advance by calling Stage Door on 0131 662 1112. We will ask for your name, registration, phone number and which performance or event you are attending.
The nearest rail station is Waverley Station.
(From Princes Street) The Studio is located on 22 Potterrow. Head to North Bridge heading south from the east end of Princes Street (the Balmoral Hotel is on the corner of Princes Street and North Bridge). Continue the street and turn right on Nicolson Square. At the end of the street, turn right again and you will find the entrance to The Studio; approximately 15 minutes walk from the east end of Princes Street.
The main Lothian bus routes which serve The Studio are: 2 and 48. You can also reach the Festival Theatre and cut through the courtyard (located between the Festival Theatre and the City Restaurant), past Festival Theatre stage door through to Potterrow. The Studio is located on Potterrow, which can be accessed through Lauriston Place, Teviot Place and through Nicolson Square Gardens. Please note there is very limited street parking around The Studio. There is a small car park located about 5 minutes walk on Niddry Street (7am – 11pm, 7 days). Toilets are available on level one, including gender-neutral accessible toilet with a hand rail.
The Quiet area is located in the gallery outside of the studio performance space.
Visiting the venue in advance
We appreciate that visiting a new place can be a challenging experience for some people. If you have booked tickets to see Sound Symphony and would like to visit the venue before the performance day so the young person you are with has a chance to familiarise themselves and look around, please let us know and we will happily arrange someone to be there to show you around and inside the venue.
